The short version
The Bestway Hydro-Force Wave Edge is a very cheap inflatable SUP that works for kids, teens and lighter adults on calm water.
Heavier adults should skip it: at 27 inches wide and about 4 inches thick it’s narrow and thin, so it feels tippy and flexes under more weight.
Bestway rates it for paddlers up to 220 lb, but our view hasn’t changed since 2021: it’s at its best well under that limit.
Current version
The Wave Edge is still a Bestway model, with a suggested retail price of around $229 at the time of writing. The design hasn’t changed much since 2021. Paddling Magazine’s buyer’s guide lists it as a 2024 model at 10’2” × 27”.
Our old Amazon link for it now goes to a dead page, and we couldn’t confirm a live, in-stock listing when we checked in October 2026, so we’ve removed the buy link. Availability of cheap Bestway boards comes and goes by season; if you find one, check that the listing says 10’2” × 27” Wave Edge, not one of Bestway’s other Hydro-Force models.

Performance
These scores are our assessment of the board’s specs and design. They come from our original 2021 review.
Stability
8.0The three-fin setup keeps it tracking straight, and for a light paddler it’s steady enough on calm water. For anyone heavier, the narrow 27” width and 4” thickness are the problem. Most adult beginners are better off on a board around 32” wide and 6” thick. Our paddle board size guide explains why.
Maneuverability
7.0Its short length makes it easy to turn. As weight goes up, the thin board starts to bend in the middle, which makes it harder to control.
Glide
7.0Average. It’s short and won’t cover distance quickly, and the heavy paddle doesn’t help. Swapping in a lighter paddle is the best upgrade you can make; see our best paddle board paddles.
Ease of transport
It rolls up small and fits in a closet, though the two fixed side fins get in the way when you pack it.
Ease of inflation
Getting it rigid takes some effort with the included hand pump. An electric pump makes life easier; see our best SUP pumps.
Who it’s for
- Kids, teens and lighter adults
- Occasional calm-water paddling at a pool, lake or sheltered bay
- A cheap spare board for guests
It’s not a good first board for most adults. Spend a little more and you’ll get a wider, thicker board that’s far easier to learn on. Whatever you ride, wear a PFD and a leash.

FAQ
How much weight can the Bestway Wave Edge hold?
Bestway rates it for paddlers up to 220 lb. Because it’s only 27” wide and about 4” thick, we’d keep riders well below that for a stable, stiff ride.
Is the Bestway Wave Edge good for beginners?
For kids and lighter adults on flat water, yes. Most adult beginners will find a wider, 6”-thick board much easier to balance on.
Can you use it in the ocean?
Only in very small, sheltered conditions close to shore. Its short, narrow shape and light weight don’t suit wind, chop or surf.
